How are total views measured?
- Total page views in the Section Workspace include visits to any page within your section.
- Total page views in the Channel Workspace include visits to the homepage and calendar page of channels within your site and visits to all pages within the sections on your site.
- Total page views in the Site Workspace include visits to the homepage and calendar page of your site; visits to the homepage and calendar page of channels within your site; and visits to all pages within the sections on your site.
How do you obtain the statistics?
We base the statistics on sessions. A session begins when a user accesses the web site and ends when the user closes the browser. The statistics reflect all sessions for all users within the specified date range.
We count only one visit or targeted visit per domain and only one view per page during each session.
Is there a difference between the summary statistic shown for total visits and the number on the graph?
No, the total number of visits recorded on the graph is the same as the total number of visits in the summary.
What are targeted visits?
Targeted visits are determined by the domain (site, channel or section) under which the “destination page” resides.
In other words, if your destination page is the homepage of the site, that site will reflect the targeted visit. The statistics in the Site Workspace will reflect a visit and a targeted visit as well as a page view. The statistics in the Channel Workspace and the statistics in the Section Workspace will be unaffected.
However, if your destination page is the homepage of a channel on the site, that channel will reflect the targeted visit. The statistics in the Channel Workspace will reflect a visit, a page view and a targeted visit. The statistics in the Site Workspace will reflect a visit, one page view and no targeted visits. The statistics in the Section Workspace will be unaffected.
In the same way, if your destination page is a page within the section, that section will reflect the targeted visit. The statistics in the Section Workspace will reflect a visit, a page view and a targeted visit. The statistics in the Site Workspace and the Channel Workspace will reflect a visit, one page view and no targeted visits.
What is the benefit of knowing the total number of targeted visits?
Looking at your visitors “ultimate destinations,” will help you assess what material is the most popular and build on that popularity.
What is the default date range?
The default date range is one year, ending on the day you are viewing the statistics. You may set it for any date range you chose.
Why are the total visits and total targeted visits always the same in the Section Workspace?
Since the destination page resides in the domain at the lowest point (the section) in the hierarchy of domains, the total visits and total targeted visits will always be the same in a Section Workspace.
