Manage groups and membership

After you create a group or a group set, you can add or delete individual groups and manage student membership. You can also edit group names and send messages to your groups to kick off collaboration!

Import/Export group and members

Now you have a way to bulk create groups or add group members in Ultra courses by importing a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file. This feature also allows you to export groups and members to a CSV file.

Import groups

You can create groups by importing a CSV file from the course group set page or the course groups view. When you assign an assessment to a group set, you can import a CSV file. This allows you to assign an existing group set or create a new one while creating an assessment.

In the Course Groups view, select the Import Groups or Members icon to open the side panel that contains the templates to use:

You can import groups or you can import members from the Group Import Export  page. This is why you can download two different templates:

• A template for creating groups, and
• A template for importing members into groups

In both templates, all mandatory cells are marked with an asterisk (*).

1. Template for creating groups:
   • Select the Import Groups or Members icon, the side panel opens.
   • Select the Create groups tab.
   • Select the Download groups template link and download the template.
   • Fill the template with all required information.
     For the mandatory field Group Code, you can choose any alphanumeric code you want.
   • Save your template file as a .csv file.
   • Upload your .csv template using the Upload File button.
     
2. Template for importing members into groups:
   • Select the Import Groups or Members icon, the side panel opens.
   • Select the Assign members tab.
   • Select the Download members template link and download the template.
   • Fill the template with all required information. 
     For the mandatory field Group Code, you should add the corresponding alphanumeric code you assigned to the group when you created it. You can also export the corresponding group template.
   • Save your template file as a .csv file.
   • Upload your .csv template using the Upload File button.
     

After you import a file, you'll receive a confirmation email to let you know that the file imported successfully or that there were errors. We recommend to use the templates supplied to avoid issues.

Export groups

After groups are created, you can export them from the Group Set view to edit the document, and import them again selecting the “Upload file” button.
