Using persistent cookies increases the usability of WebDAV because users are not asked to authenticate multiple times. If persistent cookies are not used, users may have to authenticate multiple times when accessing content in Web Folders or Shared Location (Mac).

If persistent cookies are used and users forget to explicitly select the Logout button to end their session, the session will remain open even when the browser is closed, thus increasing the risk of unauthorized access. This is a higher risk when organizations use shared computers, such as computers in a computer lab. As a mitigating control, organizations can consider adopting a browser policy for removing all cookies when browsers are closed.

Enable and disable persistent cookies

If your institution does not have access to content management features:

  1. In the Administrator Panel, in the Content Management section, select Authentication Settings.
  2. On the Authentication Settings page, under Authentication Options, select Yes or No for Use Persistent Cookies.
  3. Select Submit.

If your institution has access to content management features:

  1. In the Administrator Panel, in the Content Management section, select Technical Settings.
  2. On the Technical Settings page, select Authentication Settings.
  3. On the Authentication Settings page, under Authentication Options, select Yes or No for Use Persistent Cookies.
  4. Select Submit.
