Integrate Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor with Blackboard Learn to lockdown and automatically proctor assignments and tests securely in the Ultra Course View.

To get started, your institution needs to obtain a Respondus LockDown Browser license. Higher education institutions can also use Respondus Monitor with the LockDown Browser integration. Respondus will provide you with an administrator account and instructions to create a server profile. The profile includes the information you need to integrate LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor with Blackboard Learn.

Contact Respondus to obtain a pilot license or a full license for LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.

Configure the Respondus LockDown Browser integration

After you receive the Application ID from Respondus, you can register the integration as a REST API in your Blackboard Learn production instance.

  1. Go to Admin Panel > Integrations > REST API Integrations.
  2. Select Create Integration.
  3. Paste the Application ID provided by Respondus.
  4. In the Learn User field, set this to any account. We don’t use this account for the integration. We use three-legged OAuth instead, which means the tool uses the permissions of the current Learn user.
  5. For End User Access, select the default value Yes. For Authorized To Act As User, select Yes.
  6. Select Submit. The integration appears in the list.

Now that Respondus is integrated with Blackboard Learn, you can set up LockDown Browser as a proctoring service.

Create a proctoring service

  1. Go to Admin Panel > Integrations > Proctoring Services.
  2. Select Create Proctoring Service.
  3. Fill out the following fields:
    • Proctoring Service Information: The fields in this section contain identifying information about the service.
      • Name: Type the name of the proctoring service.
      • Handle: A globally unique string identifier. This identifier is used when linking a proctoring service to a specific assessment. The Respondus integration uses the static handle rs-lockdown.
      • Vendor: The 3rd party vendor name of the service. In this case, choose Respondus.
      • Available: Select Yes to make the service available or No to make it unavailable. Instructors won't be able to use the service until you make it available.
      • Browser Download URL: Specify a URL where students should go to download the vendor's secure browser.
    • Assessment Settings LTI Tool Information: The fields in this section connect the LTI Tool created by vendor to handle modifying test security settings.
      • URL: The URL to launch the vendor LTI tool.
      • Key: The key used to LTI launch the tool's URL.
      • Secret: The secret used to LTI launch the tool's URL.
      • Tool Provider Custom Parameters: Custom LTI parameters that are sent when the LTI launches. This field can leverage the existing Learn template variables used by other LTI placements.
  4. Select Submit to save the proctoring service.
