Looking for your classmates, instructor, or another Blackboard Learn user? You can find people in multiple places if they've chosen to share their contact information.

Course roster

Doesn't seem familiar? Jump to the "Ultra" help about the roster.

Use the roster tool to search for other students in each of your courses. The name of each student is included in the roster automatically. You can't remove your name from the roster, but you can control whether to make your email address available.

  1. In the course menu, select Tools > Roster.
  2. Select Go to list all students in your course. You can search for students by typing a keyword in the text box and using the following filters:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Contains
    • Equal to
    • Starts with
    • Not blank

User Directory

In the User Directory, you can search for other students and instructors in the system.

You can choose what information to share by setting your privacy options. For your personal information to appear in the roster or User Directory, it must appear on the Edit Personal Information page.

Only users who have updated their personal information and selected List my information in the User Directory in their privacy settings appear in the search results.

  1. Go to the My Institution tab. Select Tools > User Directory.
  2. On the Users page, select Go to list all users who have shared information. Type a keyword to search for a specific user and use these filters:
    • Username
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Email
    • Contains
    • Equal to
    • Starts with

Contacts page

On the Contacts page, you can view an instructor's contact details, office hours, photo, and other personal information. You can also learn about teaching assistants and upcoming guest speakers.

From the course menu, select Tools > Contacts. Contacts associated with your course appear if your instructor added information.

ULTRA: Roster

On the Roster page, you can access basic profile cards and match faces to names. All course members appear in the roster, and you can't remove yourself. You can access the roster from the Course Content page.

You can upload a picture on your Profile page. If you don't add a picture, a generic silhouette appears in the roster. Your profile picture also appears in groups, discussions, conversations, and messages next to your activity.

Select a name to view more information. You control who can access this information in your profile privacy settings.

Change your view. You can choose grid view or list view. The roster remains in the selected view until you change it, even if you log out.

  • Grid view is sorted automatically by role and then by last name. Teaching staff appears first. To manually sort the list, switch to list view.
  • List view is sorted by last name by default. Select the Name or Role headings to sort the contents.

Edit your information. Open the menu next to your name and select Edit member information. You can update your information from the roster or your profile page.

Connect from profile cards. Select a profile picture to open the pop-up profile card and send messages. The profile cards display usernames if allowed by your institution.

Search the list. Reach out to your teaching assistant or find a new study partner. Select the Search Roster icon. In the search box, type a name, username, or at least two letters to reveal matches. Any filters previously selected are cleared when you perform a new search.

Filter your view. You can view the roster by roles, such as instructors or support faculty. The filter options are based on the roles found in your course.
