This information applies only to the Original Course View. Your institution controls which tools are available.
You can export a CSV (comma-separated value) file that contains your existing groups and group members, reorganize offline as needed, and then import the groups into Blackboard Learn.
On the Groups page, use the import and export functions to add new users and groups. However, you can't remove users or groups. Also, you can't add new users to your course during these processes.
Export groups
Use these steps to export groups.
- Navigate to the Groups page in your course.
- Select the Export option at the top of the page.
- On the Export Groups and Members page, choose what you want to export:
- Groups only
- Group members only
- Groups and group members
- Select Submit.
- When the system has finished processing the CSV files, the export is emailed to you.
Import groups
Use these steps to import groups.
- Navigate to the Groups page in your course.
- To import group members, select Browse My Computer under Import Group Members and locate the file you want to upload.
- To import groups, select Browse My Computer under Import Groups and locate the file you want to upload.
- Select the group tools you want each group to have access to. Previous tool availability settings are overwritten.
- Select Submit.

Group codes
Group codes are unique identifiers used strictly for import purposes. You may reveal a column in the interface to see the group codes, but you can't edit group codes while in your course.
Group codes also appear in downloaded CSV files. You can edit the group codes in the CSV file when you import existing users to a group to ensure the users are added to the correct group. Group codes are needed to provide a way to identify each group in case they have the same name.
On the Groups page, you can use the View Options menu to show and hide the Group Code column.
