Administrators need to enable eReserves before it is available to any users. Once eReserves has been enabled, a folder for each course is created within this area.

Enable eReserves

  1. On the Administrator Panel, under Content Management, select Content Management Settings.
  2. Select eReserves.
  3. Select Yes
  4. Select Submit.

Administrators can enable eReserves at any time, even after users have been actively using the Content Collection. If eReserves is enabled after the Content Collection has been in use, course folders within eReserves are generated automatically the first time a user with the role of instructor, teaching assistant, or course builder accesses the Content Collection for that course.

Disable eReserves

If the eReserves function is disabled, folders for any new courses are not created automatically. Existing content is not removed from eReserves, but the area itself no longer appears under the Library in the left-side navigation area.

If the eReserves function is turned off and then later turned on, course folders that were not visible will appear the first time a user with the role of instructor, teaching assistant, or course builder accesses the Content Collection.

Create eReserve course folders

Administrators can use the create-course-directory command-line tool to create directories for courses in the Content Collection and corresponding folders in eReserves. This tool is especially helpful to activate the eReserve folders in advance. An example use for this would be to allow librarians to upload materials before a semester begins.

The course must already exist in the Blackboard Learn before running this command-line tool.

Command syntax

create-course-directory Course ID

Using this syntax in the command line, create-course-directory history100 creates a Course directory for history100.

Automatic folder creation

If administrators do not generate the eReserves course directory by using the command-line tool, course folders within eReserves are automatically generated the first time a user with the role of instructor, teaching assistant or course builder accesses the Content Collection. At this point, all users enrolled in the course are able to see the course folder in eReserves.

Whenever the instructor, teaching assistant, or course builder accesses the Content Collection, all courses where they hold these roles are generated in the /courses folder and in the /eReserves/courses folder simultaneously.

Librarian role

In Blackboard Learn, a librarian is a user with full permissions to folders in eReserves. Administrators need to assign users to librarian roles to grant full access to manage eReserves content.

Instructors, teaching assistants, course builders also have full permissions to eReserves course folders for those courses they are enrolled in. All other users, with the exception of guests and observers, have only read access to this area. Instructors can also add items from eReserves to their courses.
