Content Collection Menus

The menus are located in the left navigation pane and include the Content Collection, Jump To, and Search Content menus.

The Content Frame

The content frame occupies most of the screen and displays the current view. You interact with content from this view. Press and drag the border to increase or decrease the size of the content frame. The content frame includes the breadcrumbs <end definition>. path, the Action Bar <end definition>., and the current view.

Content Areas

The Content Collection contains files and folders organized into separate areas for users, courses, and the school. You access each area through the Content Collection menu in the left navigation pane. Selecting an area displays the hierarchy of folders and files available to you in that area. Three default areas appear: My Content, Course Content, and Institution Content.

Personal Home Page

The Personal Settings page allows you to select an entry point into the Content Collection. If you access the same course in the Content Collection every time you open the tab, set the home page to point to that course folder in the Content Collection for quick access. To learn more, see Set Your Personal Home Page.

Go to Location

The Go to Location page allows users to go directly to a specific folder in the Content Collection. This timesaver allows you to provide the path to open a folder and bookmark the location at the same time. To learn more, see How to Use Go To Location.

Content Collection Menu

You can view the Content Collection menu in two ways. These views are represented by icons at the top of the panel. Initially, the shortcut view appears by default. The system saves your view preference and returns to this view each time you enter the Content Collection. You may press and drag the right side of the frame to adjust the size of the Content Collection menu.

The shortcut view includes icons for each content area. The folder view shows each content area with a nested folder structure. You can expand or close each folder to view the sub-folders.

The Blackboard administrator at your school may override your ability to switch navigation views.

The Jump To menu provides access to portfolios, collaboration tools, learning objects, and other tools within the Content Collection. h2Breadcrumbs Path

The breadcrumbs path appears at the top of the content frame. Use this hierarchical trail to show where in the Content Collection you are located and how you got there. Click an item in the path to proceed to that folder. Breadcrumbs drop-down lists act as hierarchy folder separators and display a list of options for that folder.

More About Content Areas

The My Content area is used to store folders and files—referred to as items—for each user. You can access the personal files that you have added to the Content Collection.

You must use the search feature to find and view content items or folders that are shared with you. You may add bookmarks to these locations so they are easily found in the future.

The Course Content area is used to store folders and files for each course. A folder appears for each course you have access to. Instructors see folders for the courses they are teaching. Instructors must grant permissions to students before course folders are available to them.

The Institution Content area is used to store folders and files for educational and administrative services not directly related to a course. The Institution Content area also includes a separate area dedicated to the library. The school library may use this area to post e-Reserves, electronic manuscripts, and other resources. With the ability to share folders and files across the Content Collection, this is a powerful and intuitive way to share and distribute library materials.
