You may find that Matching Questions are quite complex. In this topic, we've included the student steps for Keyboard, VoiceOver, and JAWS® interactions.

Keyboard interaction

  1. When first opened, the focus appears to be lost.
  2. Press Tab to set focus on the first answer option arrow of the first matching prompt.
  3. Press spacebar to activate.
    1. If no item is currently selected, focus moves to the first radio button in the list.
    2. If an option is currently selected, focus moves to that option.
  4. To navigate and select an answer, see Navigate among the possible answers: Keyboard.
  5. To cancel out of the answers, press Escape.
    • Focus returns to the answer option arrow.
  6. When you're ready to submit your assignment, tab to the Submit button and press spacebar.
  7. Focus moves to the Submit Assignment heading in the newly opened dialog.
  8. Press Tab once more to the Submit button, which closes the dialog and returns you to the Assignment Details and Information page.
  9. Under Grading, find the submission information.

Navigate among the possible answers: Keyboard

  1. To navigate among the list, press the Up and Down Arrows.
    • The focus option is selected.
  2. Navigate with the Down Arrow key:
    1. To interact with the focused items of each radio button such as video, images, links, press Tab.
    2. To get back to the radio button option, press Shift + Tab and then continue with the radio button navigation with the Up and Down Arrows.
  3. To interact with those items within the radio button, press spacebar.
  4. For inline images, displays the enlarged view.
    1. Press Escape to close and focus returns to the image.
    2. Press Shift + Tab to set focus back on the radio button.
  5. For videos, the link to the video opens in a new window.
    1. Return to the assessment window and focus is still set on the video.
    2. Press Shift + Tab to set focus back on that radio button of the video.
  6. For links, the link also opens in a new window.
    1. Return to the assessment window and focus is still set on the link.
    2. Press Shift + Tab to set focus back on that radio button of the link.
  7. For documents and attachments, set focus on the ellipsis and press spacebar.
    1. Focus moves to the Download File option.
    2. Select to download.
    3. Once downloaded, you may need to navigate back to the questions based on the location of the file.
  8. When you have an option to select, be sure you have focus on the radio button. Press Shift + Tab if you're still on the interactive content of that radio button.
  9. To select the focus item, press Enter or spacebar.
    • The options close and focus returns to the arrow of the answer.
  10. Press Tab again to set focus on the next prompt’s answer and repeat the navigation process.

VoiceOver interaction

  1. When you open the assignment, VoiceOver announces “heading level 1” and the name of the assignment.
  2. To quickly get to the assignment content, press Control + Option + Command + h to get to “heading level 2 Assignment Content.”
  3. Press Control + Option + Right Arrow to the question number, the total number of points, and then the question and description information.
  4. The next set is the Prompt and Answers. They work in pairs.
    1. For example, each prompt has one answer “pop-up button."
    2. The best way to navigate is after the question description information, press Control + Option + Right Arrow, and VoiceOver announces “Prompt” and then “Answers.”
  5. After you hear “Answers,” the best option is press Control + Option + Command + j to get to the first answer's button.
    • VoiceOver renders the question number, the prompt text, and then “collapsed pop-up button.”
  6. Press spacebar to activate and open the list of options.
    1. If it is currently selected, focus moves to the first radio button in the list.
    2. If an option is currently selected, focus moves to that radio button.
  7. To navigate and select an answer, see Navigate among the possible answers: VoiceOver.
  8. To cancel out of the answers, press Escape.
    • Focus returns to the question number, prompt text, and collapsed pop-up button.
  9. When you're ready to submit your assignment, locate the Submit button. Go to either the forms menu and locate Submit or press Control + Option + Command + j to jump through form elements.
  10. When the Submit button is activated, focus moves to the Submit Assignment web dialog.
  11. Press Tab once more to the Submit button, which closes the dialog and returns you to the Assignment Details page. Focus is on the “heading level 1” name of the assignment.
  12. You can quickly verify your location by doing a find for “Submitted on” or pulling up the links menu and locating the “Submission Submitted on…” link.

Navigate among the possible answers: VoiceOver

  9. Press Tab again to set focus on the next prompt’s answer and repeat the navigation process.

JAWS interaction

  1. When you open the assignment, JAWS announces the name of the assignment heading level 1.
  2. To quickly get to the assignment content, you can press "h" or "2" to get to “Assignment Content heading.”
  3. Press the down arrow to the question number, the total number of points, and the question and description information.
