Announcements communicate important, time-sensitive information.

You can easily view the institution and course announcements your institution and instructors have posted.

Find your announcements

You can access your announcements on the My Institution tab or on the course Home Page. Information is presented in boxes called modules, such as My Announcements. The system generates the information in each module.

You may also receive notifications about announcements and your instructor can send emails about important course announcements.

My Institution tab

Announcements can appear in more than one module on the My Institution tab. Your institution might rename the My Institution tab to match your institution's name or remove a module.

Recent announcements appear as links. If your institution added system-wide announcements, those announcements appear first in the My Announcements module. Course announcements are organized by course name.

When you select an announcement link, the main Announcements page opens. At the top of the page, you can filter your announcements by Institution, Courses & Organizations, and View All. Use the additional menu to refine your filter results.

Course Home Page

The Home Page is a course module page. Your instructor can rename or delete this page, and create other course module pages. Your instructor also chooses which modules appear.

In the My Announcements module, only announcements for the course you're in appear. No institution announcements appear. Recent announcements appear as links. Select an announcement or more announcements... to view the complete list of course announcements. At the top of the page, you can filter your announcements by Institution and Course.

If your institution uses the Ultra experience, announcements appear in the Today section of the activity stream. You may also find announcements on the login page.

Announcements communicate important, time-sensitive information.

Your instructors can use announcements to share important information with you, such as reminders about course events and due dates.

New course announcements appear immediately when you enter a course. You need to close the New Course Announcements window before you can view course content. After you close the window, it won’t appear again. If your instructor posts new announcements, the window appears again with the new announcements only.

If you want to review a previous announcement, select View all announcements.

Activity stream

Course announcements appear in the Today or Recent section of the activity stream based on when you sign in. Most announcements disappear from your activity stream when you view them within your course.

You receive a course announcement and an activity stream notification about course groups you need to join. If you haven't joined, that alert remains in the activity stream.

Course Content page

On the Course Content page in the Details & Actions panel, select the announcements link. You can view all active announcements and sort by title or posted date. Select the Search announcements icon and type keywords to locate a specific announcement.

Your instructor can choose to display an announcement for a certain period of time. If you can't find an announcement in the archive, it may have expired.

ULTRA: Email copy of an announcement

Your instructors may email you copies of important announcements. You'll receive these emails if you have an email address in the system. Emails about announcements are always sent and aren't controlled by the global notification settings.

In the email, embedded content appears as links. You can select the links to view the content.
