For the best Web Community Manager (WCM) experience with your screen reader use Firefox® and Jaws on a Windows® system. On a Mac® use Safari® and VoiceOver.
Industry standard keyboard interactions are used throughout Blackboard Collaborate. Keyboard navigation patterns differ between browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome), but the interactions within any particular browser are common and consistent.
If you are using a Mac with Firefox or Safari and are having difficulty navigating using your keyboard, review and update your operating system and browser settings. This ensures they are properly configured for keyboard navigation. To learn more, see the following information:
Accessibility in the WCM platform
The Web Community Manager platform approaches accessibility in the following ways:
- Template-based pages and apps provide consistent interactions and user experience across pages
- Allows clients to configure their templates while still remaining within the color contrast ratio
- Provides full support for keyboard navigation
- Text can be resized 200 percent without loss of content or functionality
- Contains page titles with the name of the workspace within which the user is working
Blackboard Ally for Web Community Manager
Monitor and improve accessibility on your district and school sites
Blackboard Ally provides district-wide site content accessibility report that allows for deep insight and understanding into how the institution is performing and evolving from a website content accessibility point-of-view. The Ally Accessibility report helps track progress and can help highlight problem areas and identify initiatives that can further help improve accessibility.
Ally checks accessibility of files uploaded to your site manager. All new and existing content is checked. Checks are made automatically and in real-time against our accessibility checklist based on key areas of the WCAG 2.0 A.A. standard.
You can find the Ally institution report in Site Manager. From Site Manager, find the site or section you want to view. Select Overview in the Ally Accessibility Report.

Read the report
Ally’s institution report includes Overview and Sections tabs so that you can get the big picture as well as specific details about the accessibility of your institution’s website content.
- The Overview tab shows accessibility details for the institution’s digital content in Site Manager.
- The Sections tab shows you details on the average accessibility score for individual sections. You can sort this view by year or month.
