Using Anthology Adopt Guides
Anthology Adopt, powered by Pendo, allows institutions to create their own communications highlighting specific guides, policies, and instructions to specific users directly inside Blackboard in users’ existing workflows.
Guides can be created from a collection of templates, and institutions can apply a custom theme to brand and ensure visual consistency.
The publication status of guides and communications can be set to Public, Draft, or Disabled based on what information you want users to access.
You can create guides using two guide appearances: overlay and embedded.
Overlay guides
In the overlay guides, the guide appears above the Blackboard page’s content and can be activated by a badge, event, or automatically on page load at an interval and schedule that institutions define. Sample use cases include tool tips, polls, or multi-step tours in Blackboard.
When an instructor or student logs into Blackboard and navigates to the highlighted feature or page, a communication displays the information you created. If your guide has multiple steps, you can customize navigation buttons to let the user move forward and backward through your guide or to link out to external content.
While the communication is displayed, Blackboard functionality becomes unavailable. You can give the user the option to ignore the communication and navigate out of it without completing it. For mandatory tutorials or communications with essential policies or instructions, you can customize messages so the user is required to navigate through the message to completion.
Embedded guides
In embedded guides, the guide information is embedded inline in Blackboard content areas. Unlike a guide displayed as an overlay, embedded guides do not deactivate the functionality of a page. This makes for a more seamless user experience. Sample use cases include added context or reminders about Blackboard features or page elements.
Bank of templates in Anthology Adopt
Anthology Adopt includes a bank of ready-made templates. When you add instructional text to a template, you can customize it with buttons, icons, colors, and font choices. You can add videos, images, and links to resources outside of Blackboard.
Creating and editing Guides in Anthology Adopt
Creating a Guide
1. Log into Blackboard and Anthology Adopt with your administrator credentials.
2. In Adopt, on the side panel menu, select Guides.
3. On the top corner of the Guides page, select Create Guide.
4. On the Create Guide page enter your guide choices:
- Select app. The default application is Blackboard.
- Choose how this guide appears on the page. You can choose between Overlay and Embedded guides.
- Select layout. You have a range of choices depending on your selection of guide appearance. Select your choice of layout.
5. On the guide layout page, move your cursor over the image of the guide layout (or for keyboard users, use tab to navigate to the image of the guide layout). Select Manage in App, which appears over the image.
6. A modal opens with a field for a URL. Enter the URL of the Blackboard page where you want the guide to appear. Then select Launch Visual Design Studio.
7. Visual Design Studio launches on the Blackboard page you selected. Select the location and Blackboard element where you want the guide to appear. These options are indicated by a red outline that appears when you move your cursor over or tab to that area.
8. Using the Edit Container panel, make your selections to create and modify your guide selection. The options you see depend on which guide layout you selected.
9. Set navigation. If your guide has multiple steps, customize the navigation buttons to allow users to move forward or backward.
10. Return to the Guide Layout page in Anthology Adopt. Select the publication status. The options are Public, Draft, or Disabled.
11. Select Save and then Publish.
Editing a Guide
To edit a guide, instead of selecting Create Guide, select the guide you want to edit from the list of guides. Once you make your selection, navigate to the Settings tab for that guide and select Manage in App.
