Roles and Privileges in Anthology Adopt
Anthology Adopt Segments are based on Learn Ultra metadata such as Institution Roles, System Roles, and Course Roles. You can reach specific audiences using segmentation based on this metadata, which Learn Ultra passes to Pendo.
To learn more about roles and privileges in Learn, see Roles and Privileges. You can also learn more about Anthology Adopt.
It is possible to reach a specific audience using the following metadata:
- insRoles. Institution roles control what brands, tabs, and modules users see when they log in to Blackboard Learn. Institution roles can grant or deny access to Content Collection files and folders. All licenses have a limited default set of institution roles. Organizations with access to community engagement features may add new institution roles.
- systemRole. System role controls the administrative privileges assigned to a user. This enables system administrators to share administrative privileges and functions with other users in Blackboard Learn. systemRole only pertains to the system administrator.
- systemRoles. System roles includes all users who have administrator privileges over specific tools or functions, such as an assessment administrator or a rubric administrator.
- courseRole. Course and organization roles control access to the content and tools within a course or organization. Each user is assigned a role for each course or organization in which they participate. For example, a user with a Teaching Assistant role in one course can have a Student role in another course. Instructors can use these roles to delegate some of the responsibility for maintaining the course. Data for course roles is sent to Anthology Adopt only when a user enters a course.
- locale. Locale is mostly used in localization of a guide.
Using Segments to reach a specific audience
Create a Segment
To create a Segment rule to reach a specific audience – make sure you already have the appropriate user roles added during implementation time. Roles can include:
- System administrator.
- Instructor user with an Institution role of Faculty or Instructor.
- Student user with a default Institution role of Student. If a role is not specified when a user is created, the user will be assigned the Role ID of Student.
Data for Course roles is sent to Anthology Adopt only when a user enters a course. When creating Segments for student or instructor users, it is recommended to use Institution Roles. Using Course roles works best, for example, when you want to track adoption of enrolled users in a course.
Begin by selecting Segments on the side panel in your Anthology Adopt account. Then select Create Segment.
On the Create Segment page, under Segment Name, give a name to your new Segment. Select the type of user role from the dropdown menu, then select an operator from the next dropdown menu. Enter the name of the role you'd like to create a segment for.
For example, under Rule 1:
- Select the specific type of role that you want to target in the first dropdown menu. In this case, insRoles.
- Select contains in the next menu dropdown.
- Then enter the name of the role you are targeting, such as instructor or FACULTY.
- Select Create Segment to save your new Segment.
If you need additional rules, select the plus sign next to ADD.
If a new user has been created before the process, it will take 1+ hours to reflect the change.
Adding Segments to Guides
Once you have created your new segment, you can apply it by selecting Guides on the side panel and then select the Guide you wish to apply it to.
Open the guide to make edits.
In the Segment area, select Edit. Then use the menu to select the Segment you wish to apply to the Guide.
Segments are a powerful tool to effectively communicate the right information to the right audience within Learn Ultra.
