Here you'll find the most important topics and questions about the Microsoft OneDrive LTI integration with Blackboard.
What does the integration provide?
The integration provides the following capabilities:
- An ability for an instructor to link direct to documents stored in OneDrive for access within Learn. The document(s) will be linked to the course, so any editions or updates to the document via M365 online will be available for the course in which it is linked. Students can access a read-only version of the document, whether Word, PowerPoint or Excel, viewing it directly in their browser without having to download it. Instructors can edit the document via edit mode in the browser, making it easy to make corrections without leaving the Learn environment.
- Instructors and students are presented with a OneDrive file explorer which allows them to search and manage their OneDrive files within Learn.
- Instructors can create a new collaborative document for all students in a course to collaborate on. These can be Word, PowerPoint or Excel files. Instructors can also choose to search for an existing document in their OneDrive or from across their shared Courses via the OneDrive file explorer.
Who can use this integration and what roles?
Instructors, graders, teaching assistants can create linked embedded files from OneDrive and can also create collaborative documents. Students have read-only access to linked files in a course but read/write access to any collaborative document. Both Instructors and students can access the OneDrive file explorer to search and manage their files.
What are the minimum requirements for this integration?
To use the Microsoft OneDrive LTI integration, your institution should have a single Microsoft tenant. It can be an education or enterprise license. Educators and students must have accounts in the same tenant for the integration to work.
Does this integration need Microsoft approval to work?
This integration will need approval from your Microsoft global admin. Your admin will need to consent in the OneDrive LTI admin portal to the tool accessing storage and files in your Microsoft tenant. The steps to provide this consent can be found in this documentation: Integrate Microsoft OneDrive LTI with Blackboard | Microsoft Docs.
Where are the files and data stored for this integration?
The files and data for this integration are stored on your institution SharePoint. A SharePoint site is created for each Blackboard course where the files for the course are stored. This site allows the tool to securely manage permissions and access files.
Will this OneDrive integration impact the existing Blackboard Learn Cloud Storage tool?
No, this integration is separate from the existing Cloud Storage tool in Blackboard Learn and therefore will not have any impact.
Will this integration work in AWS GovCloud?
There are no restrictions to using this integration within AWS GovCloud. The solution will support institutions with a single Microsoft tenant and will work with an education or enterprise license of Microsoft.
How do linked files in OneDrive behave when courses are archived or copied?
The OneDrive LTI supports course copy. A new SharePoint site is created for the new course, and all the files are copied over to the new course site. Educators and students are able to access the new copies of these files in the new course.
I am an institution with a single Blackboard Learn instance and multiple Microsoft Tenants. Will this integration work for us? Does this integration support multiple domains?
Unfortunately, not at this time. You must have one Microsoft tenant and all of your educators and students must be in the same tenant. However, there is no limit on the number of Blackboard Learn instances supported. If you have multiple Blackboard instances and one Microsoft tenant, the LTI will still work.
