Quotas keep courses from exceeding acceptable disk space limits and warn instructors when a course is approaching the limit. You can grant additional disk space to individual courses if necessary.
The Course Quota page options set the course quota and legacy file storage.
Course quota sets a size limit for storing files and other data contained in the course but does not include files stored in private storage. Setting a limit notifies users when the course quota is about to be exceeded. Setting a course quota for a specific course overrides the default setting.
Blackboard uses multiple types of storage, including course files, hidden/private storage, and local storage. Only course files are counted in determining a course's quota. For example, attachments to discussion board threads, blogs, journals, and wikis are saved in hidden/private storage, so these do not count toward a course's quota.

How Course Quotas Interact with Course Copying
Course Quotas don't prevent or end copying based on the quota of the target course. During course copies: the target course quota is raised as required. The original quota is restored after the copy. This can result in the course having an overage.
For example, suppose that:
- Course A has a quota of 700MiB.
- Course B has a quota of 300MiB.
- Course A contains 520MiB of files.
- Course B contains 260MiB of files.
The instructor copies the entire course A into B, so all the files in A also are copied. The sum (780MiB) of A's actual files and B's actual files exceeds the quota of B. The quota of Course B will be temporarily raised during the copy process. After the copy completes, the quota of B will be restored to its previous value of 300MiB. This occurs even when the user executing the copy does not have the level of privileges required to modify quotas.
This scenario will lead to a 'overdraw' of 480MiB on the part of B's quota. Therefore: users will no longer be able to upload new course files into Course B until some of the excess files are deleted or the course quota is raised by an Administrator.
